When I visit an establishment I’m always looking for those unique details that make the place a special spot for local folks to gather and have a great time. Over the 4th of July weekend I took a stroll along Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete. My mission was to find a local craft brewery where I could enjoy a drink and the atmosphere.
Curious about the rustic and vintage building across the street, I stopped in at the Green Bench Brewing Company, St. Pete’s first craft microbrewery. Equipped with a 15 barrell brewhouse that sits on a 6,000 sq. feet warehouse. Their 1,500 sq. feet tasting room has a view that looks into the brewery with a seating area.
The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the American Flag proudly displayed in the main room.
I was greeted promptly by one of the bartenders who smiled and asked me what I wanted to drink. Not much of a drinker, I decided to try something different. I went for the “Zombie Killer,” it’s made with Apple Cider with Honey and Cherry Juice.
As I sat there enjoying my drink, my eyes slowly wondered around the room and captured some simple but amazing details that make up this place. On one of their walls there were awards proudly displayed.
Some of their most famous taps include Green Bench, Sunshine City, Stay Dry Trout and Central Oak to name a few.
The interior of the brewery has an industrial feel and look. It has a spacious floor plan with large wood tables and the bar stools had metal legs. I loved the simple but rustic decor such as the lantern situated in the cornor of the room by the outside door.
I decided to check out the outdoor area and I was quite surprised on how big it was! The outdoor seating consisted of tables and chairs with big umbrellas to keep the hot Florida sun away. The real treat is corn hole and a fire pit! Are you kidding me?!?! Beer drinker’s paradise…
